Bloggers make a difference

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/traveltips/03/23/blogging.travel.complaints/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

I guess the squeky wheel does get the grease

I have been busy trying to get a presentation together about Twitter for my emerging technologies course. I think it is ready but I am having some issues with the sound. It seems like most people in the course are having issues as well. no big deal thlough I am sure we will all fumble through it in our own way.

Sweety?

I know I know.

You must be wondering if this blog belongs to a guy or a girl. With a name like Sweety it can be hard to tell the difference. I have had the name for almost 20 years now and like most nicknames (and family) you don't choose them. Nicknames are funny because everybody secretly wants one but nobody will admit it. It would be easy to have a last name of Smith and be called "Smitty" or have red hair and be called "Red." But to get a nickname like ”Sweety" there has to be a story behind it and having a name like "Sweety" takes allot of getting used to.

Kobe Bryant is a basketball player for the Lakers and he gave himself the nickname”Black Mamba" and a funny thing happened...people started calling him that. I think they do it now to make fun of him. So you can't just push these things on your friends. I would have preferred to have the nickname of "Rugedley Handsome" but I thought it was taken and I didn't know how to spell "Ruggidly".

I got the name "Sweety"one night after asking my buddies for weeks why I didn't have a nickname. Maybe a year later my wish came true. On a night over many beers and playing cards with the fellas. One of my buddies started calling me "Sweet Bitch", actually there was a little more to it (there was a F sharp in it but this is a family blog and I don't want to share with you the full name.) Anyway to make a short story long. I was called "Sweet Bitch" for about five years. This name took some time getting used to as you can imagine. The name was eventually shortened to where it is today "Sweety". My buddies and I still get a kick out the look on peoples faces when they hear people call me that or ask me something. "Hey Sweety do you want a beer" or "Hey Sweety I will pick you up at 7". I get called "Sweety" as much as I get called my real name so I am pretty used to it. There are some people who don't even know my real name. I think the only one who doesn't call me "Sweety" is my wife. She just calls me "loser" but I don't think that name will stick because I am pretty sure that "loser" is taken by her ex boyfriend.
